Exil

Exil is a game project on which I worked for a very long time on my spare time (until I shelved it one day). It is basically my first steps in the world of 3D and I learned a lot while working on this project.

The main inspiration were the Prince Of Persia Sands of Time trilogy plus a bit of Mirror's Edge and Shadow of the Colossus.

The game focus on a character named Lena who can climb ledges and jump around from platforms to platforms. Parkour movements, alternate realities and gravity shifts were some of the main ideas for the level design.

Unreal Engine 4 Prototype

Below are some visuals and demos from the UE4 version of the prototype:

One point that I wanted to present about Lena was the fact she wasn't alive, without saying it. I got an idea from another artist work by showing a skeleton in place of the regular character's shadow on the ground:

I also worked on various effects:

Other characters were in progress as well, like Death:

(The horn animation was made by blending two blendshapes and some normal maps to correct the shading)

I also started looking into some environments, such as the altar where Lena wake up:

Unreal Development Kit Prototype

Before working on the Unreal Engine 4 version, Exil was being developed on the Unreal Development Kit (UDK). Below are some assets, lighting tests, etc. of this version:

I also tried to develop a climbing system that could tackle other characters/creatures, similar to Shadow of Colossus. It proved to be a difficult task so I didn't go very far unfortunately:

Concepts

With a long project like Exil, I took the time to research ideas via different drawings. Both for the main character design but also for the environments given the importance to them for the level design and gameplay.
